Danny decided an art-homeschool project was just what we needed. Using our character’s we liked best from Alice in Wonderland we created our artistic interpretation of them…. (I didn’t finish mine. I was a little more ambitious and picked a project that left me lonely at the art table long after everyone was gone.) I made a twisted version of the Dutchess. Cory painted the Cheshire cat and Danny painted the Mad Hatter- both inpired by the new Alice in Wonderland movie they saw in the theater.

Thought this was funny and had to share…

Yaba daba do!
We finished reading Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass today. I have to admit it was a great book, but difficult to read aloud. (Not as bad a Tom Sawyer, but hard none the less.) We rewarded ourselves by watching a movie version from 1985- my favorite. It got me wondering what other people’s favorites might be…. Also, what character do you identify with the most? I liked the Duchess most (“Be what you would seem to be — or, if you’d like it put more simply — Never imagine yourself not to be otherwise than what it might appear to others that what you were or might have been was not otherwise than what you had been would have appeared to them to be otherwise.”). Danny said he’d either like to be the Hatter or a White Knight or the Unicorn. Cory said he’d liked the Cheshire Cat. So whooooo are yoooou………….. in Wonderland?
I think some days, more than others, my life revolves mostly around food. Today would be one of those days. We picked more berries than we could eat. I finished reading Skinny Bitch, which is all about food (and funny as shit too.) I baked an angel food cake- to go with the berries. I roasted a chicken for the meat eaters. Roasted potatoes and carrots for me. Salad for everyone. And finished the evening with some whipped cream to go with the berries and angel food cake. Yum!
Today started in a regular way. Breakfast. School-ish type stuff. Geometry in the afternoon (proofs=fun). Dance rehearsal for the boys in the early evening. Very productive practice. Things are looking good. The unexpected- an invite to Brian’s Momma’s for dinner. A simple get-together with his fam- sister Leslie and baby Bryon included. It was a very nice time. Sometimes it’s just nice when a usual day goes off it usual track and ends with coconut cream pie. I like that a lot.

Killer death bug…
Today we had our best berry pick yet. It’s really exciting too…to go out into the yard- full of hope- and find the branches dotted with deep black berries full or ripeness. Three bowls full is quite a decent snack. Even better, no pesticides!
So we know we’re just getting the good stuff. And boy are they tasty.
And if you haven’t see the Story of Stuff…….Watch it.
