April 26, 2011 – I realized this week that since we have a built in “us vs them” mentality we should use it to our advantage. One of the problems with trying to be a rational human being is that we’re terrible at it. Did you know that 75% of people are suffering from a serious delusion like believing in werewolves or that your friends and family disguise themselves as other people to deceive you? 75%!!! That being the case I suggest putting yourself in the “us” delusional category (you probably are anyway and just don’t know it) vs the “them” that aren’t. That way when you have to deal with one of those folks that don’t believe in vaccines or global warming or the moon landing or believe in Intelligent Design you can rejoice in finding another one of “us” instead of automatically labeling them “them”.
This post talks about the need to acknowledge social identity when dealing with people that refuse to accept science. I thought my new outlook fit right in.

With non-Easter weekend approaching- we non-believers are non-celebrating- it is a good time to discuss the good things on the horizon….spring wise … as one atheist, one agnostic and two undeclared as of yet-unfully educated-ers….we are going camping and canoeing this…”holiday, for the rest of them” weekend. Forget the egg dying. I mean, does the bunny lay the eggs or is it Jesus, I’ve never been clear about that. I bought the boys chocolate bunnies a few weeks ago, because we do love chocolate, but there ends our celebration. So coming soon to a Watson near you….musical theater summer camp is a real thing and I am so excited about that. Mame the summer musical is also underway, and for us is a family affair. The pool is up and chemicals are being balanced as we speak. Sandwich season is in effect as of today. All in all things are up up up! Happy Spring everyone.
